Frequently asked questions about the telc tests

telc stands for The European Language Certificates. It is a standardised, internationally recognised language testing system based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The telc exam tests all the key areas of competence:

  • Speaking
  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Language elements (only assessed in specific exams)
  • Writing

The scope and difficulty of the tasks vary depending on the language level (A1 to C2). The exams are clearly structured and based on real-life communication situations.

The exam consists of two main parts:

  • Oral part (speaking): usually as a partner exam, approx. 15–25 minutes
  • Written part (reading, listening, language elements, writing): approx. 70–150 minutes depending on the level

The exams are conducted by trained examiners in line with defined telc assessment criteria.

A telc certificate is internationally recognised and widely accepted by the following institutions:

  • Authorities and government offices (e.g. for residence permits, naturalisation)
  • Universities and colleges (e.g. as proof of language proficiency)
  • Employers both in Germany and abroad
  • BAMF integration courses and vocational language courses

In German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) in particular, a telc certificate is considered a reliable and accepted proof of language proficiency.

Yes, it is possible to sit only individual parts of a telc exam, for example, just the oral or written part. Please contact us in advance via the contact form, by email or by telephone so that we can discuss which options are available to you.

Registration for a telc exam takes place in three steps:

  1. Get in touch: Please let us know via the contact form or by email which telc exam you would like to take. We will then get back to you with possible exam dates and explain the next steps.
  2. Register in person: Official registration for the exam takes place at our office in Chemnitz. For this appointment, it is important that you bring your ID and pay the exam fees in full. At a subsequent in-person appointment at one of our partner institutions for telc exams, you will then be intructed on the exam regulations.
  3. Processing your registration and the exam: Once your personal details have been recorded and you have been informed about the exam regulations, nothing stands in the way of you sitting the exam, which you can take at our telc partner institutions in Chemnitz.

Please note that you should allow approximately two months from the time you register for a telc exam until you receive your certificate. Registering for an exam and processing your details can take up to four weeks, and marking your exam results can also take between four and six weeks.

Yes, on request we also offer personalised telc preparation courses. Our lecturers are qualified telc examiners and therefore know exactly what is required. Depending on your needs, we can focus on specific skills such as speaking, listening, reading, grammar or writing. If you haven’t taken a language course before and are unsure whether you can sit a telc exam at a particular level, our examiners offer a placement test. The telc language exams usually take place on Fridays. Exam bookings must be made in person. Please come to our office in Chemnitz: Technologie Centrum Chemnitz, Annaberger Str. 240, 09125 Chemnitz. Don’t forget to also bring your ID with you when booking an exam. This is required for the official telc registration.

As a rule, the examination is taken in person. They will be held on the premises of our telc partners in Chemnitz.

Our examiners are certified under the official telc and CEFR standards. They assess written and oral performance objectively and transparently.

You will usually receive your results after approximately four to six weeks. You can collect your telc certificate from our office.

German B2 Evening Course Dresden

In this German course in Dresden, you will take your advanced language skills to the next level and learn to express yourself confidently in formal situations. Topics include home, social interaction, job applications and careers, academia, and small talk. You will also practise summarising longer texts, giving short presentations and leading discussions.

Important: Our language courses in Dresden are divided into two modules: B2.1 and B2.2. You can choose whether you would like to attend morning or afternoon classes. You are also welcome to enrol for just one module, for example if you have already completed the other module at another language school or if you wish to retake a module after failing the relevant language exam. In such cases, please provide proof when you enrol, such as a certificate confirming completion of the module or evidence that you failed the exam.

Darüber hinaus trainieren Sie das Zusammenfassen längerer Texte, das Halten von Kurzpräsentationen und das Führen von Diskussionen.

Wichtig: Unsere Sprachkurse in Dresden sind in zwei Module unterteilt: B2.1 und B2.2. Sie können wählen, ob Sie am Vormittags- oder am Nachmittagsunterricht teilnehmen möchten. Sie können sich auch gerne nur für ein Modul anmelden, beispielsweise wenn Sie das andere Modul bereits an einer anderen Sprachschule absolviert haben oder wenn Sie ein Modul wiederholen möchten, nachdem Sie die entsprechende Sprachprüfung nicht bestanden haben. In solchen Fällen legen Sie bitte bei der Anmeldung einen Nachweis vor, beispielsweise ein Zertifikat über den Abschluss des Moduls oder einen Nachweis darüber, dass Sie die Prüfung nicht bestanden haben.

In this language course in Chemnitz, you will extend your good grounding in the German language. Among other things, you will develop your knowledge on the topics of education, leisure time, working life and travel experiences, and learn how to word letters and invitations.

CEFR A2 German Exam

The CEFR certificate (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) can officially confirm your German language skills at level A2. The A2 exam tests whether you can understand and use frequently used expressions and sentences on familiar topics. You can hold short conversations about everyday topics such as family, shopping, work or your neighbourhood and exchange simple information. Reading and listening comprehension, speaking, writing and grammar will be tested.

Please ensure the following points before registering for the exam:

  • Please check in advance whether the CEFR certificate is recognised for your purpose.

  • It is your responsibility to choose the correct language level. If you are unsure, we will be happy to conduct a free placement test. Please contact us in advance.

  • A stable internet connection and a laptop/PC with camera & microphone are required for online exams.

GER C1 Deutsch Prüfung

Sie benötigen ein Zertifikat, um Ihre Deutsch C1 Sprachkenntnisse offiziell bestätigen zu lassen? Mit dem GER-Zertifikat ist dies möglich. Die C1-Prüfung bestätigt, dass Sie die deutsche Sprache flexibel und effektiv in Beruf, Studium und Alltag nutzen können. Sie verstehen anspruchsvolle Texte, können komplexe Sachverhalte strukturiert darstellen und sich mühelos und präzise ausdrücken. Teil der geprüften Kompetenzen sind Hör- und Leseverstehen, Schreiben, Sprechen und Grammatikkenntnisse.

Bitte vor der Anmeldung zur GER C1-Prüfung sicherstellen:

  • Das GER-Zertifikat ist für manche Zwecke nicht immer ausreichend. Bitte prüfen Sie daher vorab, ob das Zertifikat für Ihre Zwecke anerkannt wird.

GER B2 Deutsch Prüfung

Mit der GER Deutsch Prüfung können Sie Ihre Deutschkenntnisse auf dem Level B2 offiziell nachweisen, In der B2-Prüfung weisen Sie nach, dass Sie komplexe Texte und Diskussionen auch zu abstrakten Themen verstehen. Sie können sich spontan und flüssig unterhalten, Ihre Meinung klar ausdrücken und Vor- und Nachteile argumentativ darstellen. Die Prüfung besteht aus mehreren Teilen, die Schreiben, Hören, Lesen, Sprechen und Grammatik abprüfen.

  • Prüfen Sie bitte vorher, ob ein GER-Zertifikat für Ihre Zwecke ausreicht und anerkannt wird.
